Equality Myth: Should Women Flirt Their Way to the Top? Damn Straight, Says Forbes.

Well this is sure to cause an uproar. In today’s ForbesWoman, author Jenna Goudreau posits that women who don’t flirt are ignoring “one of their greatest career assets”—a valuable strategic tool (if used effectively), she says, to climb up the corporate ladder.

The commenters are…

it’s kind of shit that this is even a question.

ugh… i’m having a bad day and things are pissing me off today - not unjustifiably though.

I will admit that I sort of get tired of feminists taking away a clear asset that women have because it is sexist.  And the truth of the matter is that in my life I have met way more women that I feel are sexist then men…and I work in a male dominated (very good old boy) field.

Yes, I flirt, yes I use my sex appeal to get me what I want.  And you know what?  It works.  I don’t act dumb…using my flirty nature doesn’t mean look stupid.  But I compliment, I smile, I laugh at the jokes.  I wear dresses with leggings and fuck me boots when I have meetings.  And more often than not, it helps rather than hurts me.

I wear my jeans and t-shirts most days and it is fine.  But I can use my brains and my behavior to move up through the ranks.  Flirting is not some sort of sign of stupidity or sexism.  If you aren’t going to use the skills God gave you all in the name of equality, then you, in my opinion, are just being silly.

Men and women are not created the same.  Have you ever watched kids playing?  Boys and girls play differently and it isn’t about training or growing up or anything.  Boys and girls think differently.  Equal doesn’t mean exactly the same.

So yeah, I think that if you can use your sex appeal to get ahead, you should, it gives you an advantage.  And to me…that is the key to feminism.  feminists shouldn’t be arguing that we should be treated the same as men.  Feminists should be arguing the women be completely comfortable being 100% themselves.  Even if it means using a cute dress with sexy shoes to get your way…assuming you are comfortable in the cute dress and sexy shoes.

oh, i use it too. but the fact that you have to, if you want people to people to notice you, or to get ahead, is just proof of how unequal things still are. if you need more proof, which apparently some do. we shouldn’t need to use sex as an “asset”, at least we shouldn’t if men don’t too (which i’ll admit, some do - and i have no complaints there - men can be delectable sex objects as well, but it is very few who will go there -they don’t usually have to). so many people think things are just peachy as they are - if you complain you’re some kind of feminazi bitch and everyone rolls their eyes. lovely.
